Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Healthcare and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Materials, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.13%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.07%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.77% or 0.60 points to trade at 34.59 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 1.72% or 8.01 points to end at 472.83 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 1.43% or 4.46 points to 315.92 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 2.35% or 1.24 points to trade at 51.56 in late trade. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 1.78% or 4.58 points to end at 252.39 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 1.44% or 6.71 points to 459.53.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which rose 4.35% to 60.70, Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) which was up 3.76% to settle at 44.67 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 3.71% to close at 262.33.
The worst performers were Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was down 8.75% to 90.47 in late trade, Robert Half International Inc (NYSE:RHI) which lost 5.30% to settle at 60.88 and PTC Inc (NASDAQ:PTC) which was down 5.25% to 177.48 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Assure Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IONM) which rose 1,524.61% to 5.15, Soligenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNGX) which was up 271.00% to settle at 7.42 and Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which gained 94.26% to close at 17.95.
The worst performers were Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) which was down 35.76% to 0.49 in late trade, DigiAsia Corp (NASDAQ:FAAS) which lost 35.74% to settle at 3.65 and Indivior PLC (NASDAQ:INDV) which was down 33.57% to 10.19 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1715 to 1099 and 110 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1837 fell and 1540 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.13% to 12.51.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.31% or 7.35 to $2,370.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.75% or 0.62 to hit $81.71 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.84 to trade at $84.91 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.30% to 161.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 104.80.
