Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.08%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 6.15% or 1.97 points to trade at 33.99 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.50% or 5.02 points to end at 339.60 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) was up 1.17% or 2.36 points to 204.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 3.16% or 2.38 points to trade at 73.05 in late trade. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 2.19% or 5.77 points to end at 257.42 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) shed 1.48% or 4.00 points to 266.36.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) which rose 11.98% to 43.05, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was up 6.28% to settle at 899.73 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which gained 6.15% to close at 33.99.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 5.33% to 11.18 in late trade, Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which lost 5.27% to settle at 55.37 and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG) which was down 5.16% to 59.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Chijet Motor Co Inc (NASDAQ:CJET) which rose 2,122.22% to 6.00, Shapeways Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:SHPW) which was up 132.19% to settle at 0.49 and Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which gained 127.03% to close at 9.24.
The worst performers were Hillevax Inc (NASDAQ:HLVX) which was down 88.34% to 1.64 in late trade, China Liberal Education Holdings (NASDAQ:CLEU) which lost 73.82% to settle at 0.57 and SYLA Technologies Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SYT) which was down 34.87% to 1.98 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1545 to 1275 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1888 rose and 1454 declined, while 150 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.88% to 12.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.31% or 31.40 to $2,366.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.07% or 0.89 to hit $82.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.86 to trade at $85.68 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 160.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.68.
