Start here: https://www.ig.com/uk/spread-betting/spread-betting-vs-share-dealing There are a wide range of providers, but you need to be clear what sort of trading you are doing. I personally use "selftrade"

As we closed around the 6840, a crucial level for both bulls and bears,  i am now thinking we are about to enter a downward, and if it does not stop at 6560 then the bears are back in the picture

Initially 6800, if we can push through that without too much of an issue then 6600 would be next target.

David Battley Clearly the markets are dynamic and I determine my targets via charts and price action (occasionally my gut - but that is normally reserved for medium term expectation).  I am trading and trying to make a profit over a few hours  maybe few days.  Markets are volatile at the moment with the bears and bull fighting it out - I am bear.  That does preclude me from saying the market will go higher.  Sometime does a market reverse and this changes expectation.  I am only saying what I see.  Apologies if this is an issue for you.

Sterling is holding us down, might go to 1.15 vs euro on next leg up, traders perhaps aligning for possible extension of article 50

django mitchell I'm happy to add to shorts on the way down, but less comfortable about holding long term longs at the moment... breakout downside risk > breakout upside risk for me.

Would it be too rude to say... I'm still watching? ;) More generally though I'm keen to understand any basis for bullish reasoning at the moment, notwithstanding current moves which may be largely currency attributable.

The next half hour of price will be telling I think.  If we can get through 6850 then I will target 6800 for at least taking some profit.  Else If we bounce off 6850 again, then I might exit trade completely.

Sadly we have moved back above 6877.  Need to watch things very carefully today as unless we take out the overnight low of 6844 then I will be closing my short and might even go long. Good luck everyone.

Sorry but I am in the bear camp.  My cash holding in the 12 months or so has been between 50 and 100% (95% currently).  IMO, we are at the beginning of the end for a very long and stagnant bull market.  The market has been on cocaine (0% rates) for a number or years.  With drug addicts tone of the strategies is to cut the supply and go cold turkey, if the Fed (other CBs) did that then the market for sure would crash big time.  Instead the CB have begun to try and wean the economies  / markets off easy money.  This will be not be a quick and easy process.  We have already seen tempers and tantrums.  Coming off the high will be a slow and rocky process, but ultimately we must to normalised rates, there a lot of adjustments to be done in the next couple of years.   We have the add obviously complications of Brexit and Trade wars and other Euro batlles.  Finally we have Trump who gave an already fading bull market a shot of adrenaline in the form of a huge tax cut.

....cont (ran out of space :-)) When recession comes and it will, the CBs I fear will very few monetary / fiscal tools available to them to halt the slide.  Although rate might be in the rise they will still be historically low and all governments are heavily in debt.  The only way out of this in my opinion will be to pint money reflate.  We will finally see the the return of inflation,  we need to devalue the debt that has been accumulated over the past couple of decades.  If you share this opinion then there are some dark days ahead.  Against this back drop I find it very difficult to get excited about the stock market now or in the near future.  Is it not Armageddon but it might not be too far off.  Sorry for the downbeat post.

Unless mkt recaptures 6877 level quickly then it looks  then I suggest that we have a good chance or retesting 6800 rapidly.
