I have trimmed down the long 8180 by 45% at 8102, available cash will support the position down to 7600. if it drops that far then I'm gone, out of the game

Can't see 7600 but could be wrong? I see it rising now in to Jan 2025. Then back down end of Jan/Fed ready for the 2025 climb. I see this as the Santa rally now but the dates are just wrong....Renamed as the New Year rally.

Alex Browning I believe USA retail investors have dumped the FTSE. USA is a safer place to invest until Labour are voted out of they U-turn on NICs rise.

I don't think we will see much of a rally this year due to Fed now forecasting only 2 rate cuts instead of 4. There is a lot that has been priced in to US markets which now needs to be priced out, in my opinion. The US economy is all still growing too quickly, which is inflationary, so this may further stall any rate cuts from the Fed. And on top of that, we have the US government shutdown situation ongoing. I don't think the FTSE will fall too much, especially not compared to US markets, but if the general sentiment remains negative, or gets worse, I think the FTSE will be a bit sluggish getting back to 8200 and above. That's my take anyway. Good luck with your position.

Started writing a long reply but realised I was just agreeing with everything you wrote so deleted it and just you a thumbs up. My only caveat is if we see another 30 point drop taking us below the Nov lows then I would not like to be holding longs.

The FTSE 100 Expiry Index (“UKXSP”) will be calculated and disseminated on the third Friday of each month. The
calculation time of the index is between 08:00 and up to 10:29 (at the latest), disseminating Real Time.
08:00: market opens
i. UKXSP opens at the same time as the official FTSE 100 Index (“UKX”). The UKXSP calculates/disseminates in
real time, the same value as UKX until 10:10.
10:1 to 10:15: EDSP auction commences
ii. UKX does not change value during the expiry auction, as there are no automatic trades (AT) or uncrossing trades
(UT) transacting during the expiry auction.
iii. UKXSP calculates using the indicative uncrossing auction price and starts to diverge from UKX.
iv. UKXSP will continue to disseminate throughout the period of the EDSP auction.
10:15 to 10:29: auction period ends and stocks attempt to uncross
v. UKX continues with unchanged values until the first uncrossing price generated by the expiry auction.
vi. UKXSP continues to calculate and disseminate using the indicative uncrossing auction price.
vii. If uncrossing occurs in a stock, then that stock will enter continuous trading and start to contribute to UKX, UKX
will therefore start to change. The stock will stop contributing to UKXSP and will essentially remain closed for
UKXSP purposes.
