Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Industrials, Basic Materials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.09% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.19%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 6.84% or 5.54 points to trade at 86.52 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.44% or 0.73 points to end at 21.87 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 1.78% or 3.81 points to 217.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 2.23% or 1.18 points to trade at 51.71 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 1.20% or 4.49 points to end at 368.82 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 1.07% or 5.40 points to 498.43.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which rose 22.29% to 254.98, Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) which was up 6.84% to settle at 86.52 and NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) which gained 6.43% to close at 87.09.
The worst performers were FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which was down 15.23% to 254.64 in late trade, Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) which lost 5.33% to settle at 182.19 and Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) which was down 5.16% to 193.97 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Banzai International Inc (NASDAQ:BNZI) which rose 98.26% to 5.69, Jin Medical International Ltd (NASDAQ:ZJYL) which was up 50.76% to settle at 3.98 and Expion360 Inc (NASDAQ:XPON) which gained 45.70% to close at 0.09.
The worst performers were Garden Stage Ltd (NASDAQ:GSIW) which was down 82.89% to 1.34 in late trade, Corbus Pharmaceuticals Holding (NASDAQ:CRBP) which lost 62.26% to settle at 19.51 and Linkage Global Inc (NASDAQ:LGCB) which was down 57.32% to 0.42 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1832 to 984 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2200 fell and 1091 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.10% to 16.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.18% or 30.75 to $2,645.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $71.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.19 to trade at $74.69 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.12, while USD/JPY rose 0.96% to 143.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 100.50.
