Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Basic Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 3.43% or 2.02 points to trade at 60.88 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 1.70% or 3.51 points to end at 209.63 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 1.65% or 0.82 points to 50.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 3.10% or 1.60 points to trade at 50.01 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.63% or 2.93 points to end at 176.67 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 0.96% or 1.17 points to 121.07.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) which rose 8.89% to 324.07, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was up 7.73% to settle at 573.68 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which gained 7.42% to close at 113.74.
The worst performers were Molson Coors Brewing Co Class B (NYSE:TAP) which was down 9.78% to 44.19 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 7.93% to settle at 11.49 and Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which was down 5.82% to 65.25 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were iFresh Inc (NASDAQ:IFMK) which rose 76.67% to 2.6500, RCM Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:RCMT) which was up 71.27% to settle at 6.320 and Borqs Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BRQS) which gained 51.46% to close at 2.590.
The worst performers were Tilray Inc (NASDAQ:TLRY) which was down 49.79% to 32.09 in late trade, Anchiano Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ANCN) which lost 37.81% to settle at 4.950 and OrganiGram Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OGI) which was down 35.50% to 3.87 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1722 to 1346 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1835 fell and 1319 advanced, while 64 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.64% to 21.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.91% or 16.75 to $1825.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.30% or 0.76 to hit $57.92 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.04% or 0.64 to trade at $60.83 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.15% to 1.2134, while USD/JPY rose 0.15% to 104.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 90.377.
