Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.09%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.85%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 2.86% or 5.92 points to trade at 213.07 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 2.51% or 8.42 points to end at 344.14 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.94% or 8.38 points to 441.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 2.28% or 2.19 points to trade at 93.68 in late trade. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 2.15% or 5.19 points to end at 235.80 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 1.61% or 0.65 points to 39.77.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) which rose 13.32% to 140.38, Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) which was up 6.67% to settle at 102.64 and Equifax Inc (NYSE:EFX) which gained 5.76% to close at 243.72.
The worst performers were Amphenol Corporation (NYSE:APH) which was down 48.90% to 68.69 in late trade, Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC) which lost 4.03% to settle at 34.75 and Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which was down 3.62% to 108.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Longeveron LLC (NASDAQ:LGVN) which rose 120.73% to 1.81, Direct Digital Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:DRCT) which was up 63.17% to settle at 5.14 and JIA DA CORP (NASDAQ:JDZG) which gained 38.83% to close at 1.25.
The worst performers were Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) which was down 47.89% to 1.11 in late trade, Kwesst Micro Systems Inc (NASDAQ:KWE) which lost 28.43% to settle at 0.73 and LA Rosa Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:LRHC) which was down 28.38% to 0.81 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1921 to 905 and 102 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1987 rose and 1376 declined, while 130 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.30% to 12.04.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.54% or 12.60 to $2,339.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.56% or 0.44 to hit $78.34 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.54 to trade at $82.46 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.64% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.13% to 156.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.85% at 104.30.
