Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.33% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.47% or 3.50 points to trade at 145.49 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 1.28% or 3.48 points to end at 275.17 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.22% or 7.04 points to 581.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which lost 1.67% or 3.19 points to trade at 187.97 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.53% or 2.14 points to end at 137.30 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 1.16% or 2.59 points to 220.84.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which rose 7.26% to 97.64, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was up 6.34% to settle at 9.06 and APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which gained 5.96% to close at 24.53.
The worst performers were Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which was down 4.74% to 104.40 in late trade, Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS) which lost 4.07% to settle at 229.92 and HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was down 3.91% to 35.41 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were NLS Pharmaceutics AG (NASDAQ:NLSP) which rose 4,060.00% to 5.20, Seelos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SEEL) which was up 1,146.01% to settle at 3.90 and Uxin Ltd (NASDAQ:UXIN) which gained 83.75% to close at 5.20.
The worst performers were Intchains Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ICG) which was down 43.99% to 4.75 in late trade, Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:EDBL) which lost 37.63% to settle at 0.29 and enVVeno Medical Corp (NASDAQ:NVNO) which was down 28.00% to 3.24 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1758 to 1022 and 104 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1962 rose and 1306 declined, while 120 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 10.34% to 16.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.71% or 19.10 to $2,675.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.36% or 0.92 to hit $68.59 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.85 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 1.83% to 142.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 100.12.
