Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.80%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.11% or 4.82 points to trade at 159.82 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.66% or 1.55 points to end at 236.55 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.33% or 1.86 points to 571.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 2.19% or 6.05 points to trade at 270.74 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 2.17% or 2.36 points to end at 106.34 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) shed 2.17% or 5.75 points to 259.70.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Kenvue Inc (NYSE:KVUE) which rose 5.52% to 22.92, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was up 4.14% to settle at 143.71 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which gained 3.11% to close at 159.82.
The worst performers were Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:BLDR) which was down 5.20% to 184.84 in late trade, Cigna Corp (NYSE:CI) which lost 4.69% to settle at 320.23 and Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) which was down 4.39% to 180.63 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Genprex Inc (NASDAQ:GNPX) which rose 265.62% to 1.51, GRI Bio Inc (NASDAQ:GRI) which was up 127.59% to settle at 1.32 and Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which gained 82.18% to close at 1.84.
The worst performers were TC BioPharm Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:TCBP) which was down 55.14% to 2.27 in late trade, Gritstone Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:GRTS) which lost 31.78% to settle at 0.03 and JIA DA CORP (NASDAQ:JDZG) which was down 26.32% to 1.54 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2196 to 627 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2249 fell and 1042 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.89% to 18.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 4.00 to $2,734.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.69% or 1.16 to hit $69.85 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 1.00 to trade at $74.06 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.46% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.87% to 150.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 103.80.
