Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.36%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.00%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which rose 1.17% or 6.53 points to trade at 565.29 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.10% or 0.75 points to end at 68.70 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 0.70% or 1.52 points to 217.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 2.25% or 3.78 points to trade at 164.13 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 2.19% or 3.73 points to end at 166.81 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 1.78% or 0.35 points to 19.36.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) which rose 9.10% to 15.94, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was up 6.33% to settle at 540.98 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 4.08% to close at 109.02.
The worst performers were Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was down 6.92% to 76.00 in late trade, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which lost 4.64% to settle at 16.59 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 4.55% to 6.71 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were 60 Degrees Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SXTP) which rose 1,641.94% to 1.62, Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:GEVO) which was up 25.90% to settle at 0.68 and Wisekey International Holding AG (NASDAQ:WKEY) which gained 25.63% to close at 2.50.
The worst performers were JetBlue Airways Corp (NASDAQ:JBLU) which was down 20.66% to 4.80 in late trade, Immunoprecise Antibodies Ltd (NASDAQ:IPA) which lost 18.63% to settle at 0.59 and Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which was down 12.05% to 7.01 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1785 to 1047 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2079 fell and 1256 advanced, while 127 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.67% to 20.71.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.57% or 38.75 to $2,512.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.63% or 2.79 to hit $79.63 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.80% or 2.23 to trade at $81.89 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.43% to 147.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 102.97.
