Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.25%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.38%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON), which rose 3.68% or 8.37 points to trade at 235.99 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 2.40% or 5.47 points to end at 232.93 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.10% or 3.57 points to 173.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which lost 4.22% or 21.98 points to trade at 498.50 in late trade. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 3.31% or 1.40 points to end at 40.88 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 2.96% or 4.55 points to 149.32.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which rose 11.21% to 250.00, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was up 6.10% to settle at 462.82 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which gained 5.62% to close at 108.26.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 8.26% to 33.44 in late trade, CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which lost 5.61% to settle at 46.60 and Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) which was down 5.24% to 116.29 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sidus Space Inc (NASDAQ:SIDU) which rose 220.28% to 4.58, Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) which was up 120.37% to settle at 0.53 and Syntec Optics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OPTX) which gained 80.60% to close at 1.78.
The worst performers were Sobr Safe Inc (NASDAQ:SOBR) which was down 67.79% to 1.15 in late trade, Zoomcar Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ZCAR) which lost 66.22% to settle at 1.75 and Akoustis Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKTS) which was down 40.03% to 0.04 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1713 to 1099 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1677 fell and 1646 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.37% to 14.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.20% or 5.41 to $2,670.39 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.57% or 1.12 to hit $70.17 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.72 to trade at $73.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.36% to 154.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 106.58.
