Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.23%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 1.11% or 2.13 points to trade at 193.66 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.09% or 3.74 points to end at 347.88 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.86% or 4.23 points to 497.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 2.87% or 6.77 points to trade at 229.03 in late trade. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 1.64% or 3.06 points to end at 183.83 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 1.08% or 1.97 points to 180.70.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 12.44% to 871.10, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was up 12.24% to settle at 1,678.52 and Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which gained 6.53% to close at 331.67.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 6.92% to 10.35 in late trade, Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which lost 6.66% to settle at 7.29 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 4.95% to 60.14 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Naas Technology Inc ADR (NASDAQ:NAAS) which rose 1,853.17% to 7.09, Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which was up 239.86% to settle at 2.43 and Nexalin Technology Inc (NASDAQ:NXL) which gained 125.10% to close at 1.38.
The worst performers were CERo Therapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CERO) which was down 48.86% to 0.36 in late trade, Assure Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IONM) which lost 40.91% to settle at 0.31 and Cara Therapeutic (NASDAQ:CARA) which was down 34.72% to 0.44 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1872 to 968 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2264 fell and 1107 advanced, while 119 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.83% to 11.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.50% or 35.35 to $2,319.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.60% or 0.47 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.38 to trade at $82.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.61% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.21% to 157.04.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 104.81.
