Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.53% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.28%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 3.03% or 10.18 points to trade at 345.77 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 2.57% or 12.35 points to end at 492.23 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) was up 2.49% or 5.11 points to 210.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 2.86% or 2.10 points to trade at 71.32 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 1.76% or 3.20 points to end at 179.11 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 1.52% or 0.63 points to 40.80.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which rose 5.46% to 308.64, Paycom Soft (NYSE:PAYC) which was up 5.17% to settle at 156.11 and APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which gained 4.97% to close at 31.46.
The worst performers were The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which was down 10.03% to 17.00 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 8.50% to settle at 213.42 and CenterPoint Energy Inc (NYSE:CNP) which was down 6.67% to 28.28 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:SMX) which rose 6,511.11% to 5.95, Autonomix Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AMIX) which was up 130.00% to settle at 1.38 and DatChat Inc (NASDAQ:DATS) which gained 75.47% to close at 1.86.
The worst performers were Aslan Pharmaceuticals Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ASLN) which was down 45.24% to 1.38 in late trade, Kazia Therapeutics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:KZIA) which lost 37.72% to settle at 0.56 and Locafy Ltd (NASDAQ:LCFY) which was down 34.70% to 3.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1628 to 1203 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2073 rose and 1266 declined, while 134 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 5.30% to 13.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.23% or 5.45 to $2,426.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.25% or 0.20 to hit $80.82 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.20 to trade at $84.83 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.14% to 158.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 103.93.
