Investing.com -- Nio stock slipped 2.4% in after-hours trading after the company's second-quarter delivery figures came in below its own guidance, reigniting concerns about near-term execution. NIO delivered 107,658 vehicles in the second quarter, falling short of its previously set guidance range of 110,000 to 115,000 units. The slight miss stemmed mainly from a weak performance in April, when the company delivered just 29,356 vehicles facing industry headwinds, before deliveries recovered in May and climbed further in June.

The headline delivery shortfall overshadowed what were otherwise impressive operational milestones. NIO delivered 40,597 vehicles in June — a monthly record for the company so far this year — representing a year-over-year increase of 62.9% and a 7.7% rise from May. The first-half performance was more impressive still, with NIO delivering a cumulative 191,123 vehicles in the first six months of 2026, a record high, up 67.4% year-over-year, with all three brands setting new records for their respective first-half deliveries. Nevertheless, the stock faced challenges as the missed Q2 delivery guidance raised investor concerns about future profitability.

On the broader market front, the S&P 500 dropped 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.7%, as investors dumped semiconductor names, taking profit after the swath of stocks surged more than 80% in the first half of 2026. The moves came after the major averages closed out a strong start to 2026, with the Dow climbing 8.9% in the first half, the S&P 500 rising 9.6%, and the Nasdaq climbing 12.8%. NIO's key EV peers, including XPeng and Li Auto, are closely watched for any sympathy moves in the Chinese EV space given the shared macro and regulatory backdrop.

The combination of a guidance miss on deliveries — even against a backdrop of record absolute volumes and strong year-over-year growth — proved enough to push NIO lower in after-hours trading. Investors are closely watching whether NIO can extend its non-GAAP profitability streak, with Deutsche Bank having predicted in early June that NIO would continue to post a non-GAAP profit in the second quarter, estimating around 180 million yuan. Until the full Q2 financial results are released, the delivery shortfall is likely to remain the dominant narrative weighing on the stock.
