Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.13%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 1.91% or 1.97 points to trade at 105.27 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 1.90% or 1.04 points to end at 55.75 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.48% or 0.60 points to 41.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 2.51% or 0.56 points to trade at 21.75 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.36% or 1.05 points to end at 43.47 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 2.04% or 3.74 points to 179.70.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which rose 10.58% to 37.30, Garmin Ltd (NYSE:GRMN) which was up 8.92% to settle at 133.70 and Coterra Energy Inc (NYSE:CTRA) which gained 6.25% to close at 26.17.
The worst performers were Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which was down 28.44% to 261.97 in late trade, Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) which lost 6.73% to settle at 144.04 and International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was down 6.40% to 76.78 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Greenbrook TMS Inc (NASDAQ:GBNH) which rose 97.27% to 0.38, Energy Focu (NASDAQ:EFOI) which was up 77.52% to settle at 2.29 and Sizzle Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:SZZL) which gained 75.71% to close at 11.72.
The worst performers were Alpha Technology Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ATGL) which was down 32.27% to 5.71 in late trade, Clean Earth Acquisitions Corp (NASDAQ:ALCE) which lost 31.08% to settle at 0.34 and Biosig Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BSGM) which was down 31.08% to 0.36 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1485 to 1368 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2225 fell and 1196 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.52% to 15.34.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.24% or 4.85 to $2,034.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.21% or 0.93 to hit $77.97 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.73 to trade at $83.07 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.20% to 150.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 103.91.
