Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.13%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 13.39% or 20.72 points to trade at 175.41 at the close. Honeywell International Inc (NYSE:HON) added 1.48% or 3.13 points to end at 215.10 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.11% or 2.34 points to 212.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which lost 1.96% or 4.80 points to trade at 239.60 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 1.55% or 1.89 points to end at 119.95 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 1.46% or 3.42 points to 231.01.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) which rose 13.39% to 175.41, United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE:UPS) which was up 2.64% to settle at 168.58 and Fastenal Company (NASDAQ:FAST) which gained 2.21% to close at 49.46.
The worst performers were Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) which was down 8.03% to 143.25 in late trade, Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) which lost 5.65% to settle at 123.10 and American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which was down 5.17% to 17.06 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sonoma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SNOA) which rose 57.59% to 9.66, Hancock Jaffe Laboratories (NASDAQ:HJLI) which was up 35.79% to settle at 11.0400 and Nanthealth LLC (NASDAQ:NH) which gained 38.26% to close at 3.885.
The worst performers were Greenwich Lifesciences Inc (NASDAQ:GLSI) which was down 40.74% to 42.80 in late trade, Immutep Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:IMMP) which lost 37.61% to settle at 3.550 and Sellas Life Sciences Group Inc (NASDAQ:SLS) which was down 36.92% to 11.14 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1855 to 1216 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1782 fell and 1199 advanced, while 72 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.95% to 22.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.24% or 4.50 to $1841.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.41% or 0.19 to hit $46.59 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.27 to trade at $49.98 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.17% to 1.2115, while USD/JPY fell 0.17% to 104.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 90.970.
