Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Utilities, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.08% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 2.79% or 9.61 points to trade at 353.79 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.72% or 4.31 points to end at 254.80 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.53% or 1.56 points to 103.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 3.93% or 1.37 points to trade at 33.50 in late trade. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 2.48% or 11.55 points to end at 454.70 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shed 2.37% or 4.74 points to 195.06.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which rose 7.52% to 209.86, Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:BLDR) which was up 7.44% to settle at 146.89 and Mohawk Industries Inc (NYSE:MHK) which gained 7.40% to close at 121.30.
The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 8.50% to 240.87 in late trade, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which lost 5.98% to settle at 1,059.94 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was down 5.57% to 127.40 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Locafy Ltd (NASDAQ:LCFY) which rose 169.41% to 6.36, Kazia Therapeutics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:KZIA) which was up 85.57% to settle at 1.24 and Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ:CYN) which gained 85.10% to close at 7.33.
The worst performers were Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which was down 25.86% to 0.48 in late trade, Inspire Veterinary Partners Inc (NASDAQ:IVP) which lost 24.46% to settle at 5.59 and Asset Entities Inc (NASDAQ:ASST) which was down 22.12% to 1.62 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2413 to 446 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2578 rose and 784 declined, while 84 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.54% to 12.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.67% or 39.85 to $2,419.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.02% or 0.84 to hit $82.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.56 to trade at $85.64 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 1.74% to 158.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 104.15.
