Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Technology sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.54%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 2.63% or 4.56 points to trade at 177.89 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 2.41% or 2.79 points to end at 118.59 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 0.69% or 1.53 points to 222.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO), which lost 1.92% or 1.39 points to trade at 71.17 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 1.90% or 6.28 points to end at 324.36 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) shed 1.44% or 8.69 points to 595.49.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which rose 7.73% to 68.47, MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was up 6.68% to settle at 258.02 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 4.90% to close at 230.17.
The worst performers were McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which was down 9.90% to 514.75 in late trade, Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc (NYSE:ZBH) which lost 8.74% to settle at 104.47 and Copart Inc (NASDAQ:CPRT) which was down 6.67% to 49.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Draganfly Inc (NASDAQ:DPRO) which rose 2,136.21% to 2.31, Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc (NASDAQ:WHLR) which was up 301.94% to settle at 4.14 and Eastside Distilling Inc (NASDAQ:EAST) which gained 89.22% to close at 1.44.
The worst performers were Singularity Future Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:SGLY) which was down 63.15% to 2.48 in late trade, Autozi Internet Technology (NASDAQ:AZI) which lost 34.66% to settle at 1.81 and Big Tree Cloud Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:DSY) which was down 33.01% to 4.12 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1615 to 1197 and 96 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1928 fell and 1377 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.66% to 19.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.81% or 20.50 to $2,546.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $69.16 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $72.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.22% to 143.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 101.03.
