Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.29%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.24%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which rose 1.77% or 7.51 points to trade at 430.97 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 1.36% or 2.82 points to end at 210.71 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 0.95% or 2.26 points to 239.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 1.69% or 4.77 points to trade at 278.10 in late trade. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) declined 1.39% or 3.47 points to end at 246.25 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) shed 1.28% or 2.98 points to 229.95.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 28.62% to 41.98, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was up 6.27% to settle at 78.51 and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which gained 5.43% to close at 28.35.
The worst performers were PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) which was down 4.99% to 20.55 in late trade, Targa Resources Inc (NYSE:TRGP) which lost 4.78% to settle at 194.54 and Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was down 3.58% to 154.11 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were FTC Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FTCI) which rose 989.23% to 3.43, Senti Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:SNTI) which was up 362.96% to settle at 10.00 and Purple Biotech (NASDAQ:PPBT) which gained 150.37% to close at 8.40.
The worst performers were Mondee Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MOND) which was down 47.18% to 0.38 in late trade, Jayud Global Logistics Ltd (NASDAQ:JYD) which lost 39.63% to settle at 0.67 and T Stamp Inc (NASDAQ:IDAI) which was down 33.83% to 0.46 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1600 to 1199 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1731 rose and 1600 declined, while 94 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.26% to 13.34 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.74% or 19.91 to $2,661.09 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.26% or 0.18 to hit $68.18 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.09 to trade at $71.93 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.72% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.11% to 149.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 106.39.
