Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 1.30% or 2.73 points to trade at 213.44 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.28% or 3.06 points to end at 242.65 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.22% or 1.23 points to 101.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which lost 2.39% or 4.30 points to trade at 175.42 in late trade. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 1.61% or 2.49 points to end at 152.36 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) shed 1.30% or 2.99 points to 226.96.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:PLTR) which rose 6.88% to 70.96, Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which was up 5.26% to settle at 669.87 and AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) which gained 4.63% to close at 23.75.
The worst performers were Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) which was down 7.00% to 65.39 in late trade, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which lost 6.10% to settle at 22.47 and ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which was down 5.60% to 69.81 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zjk Industrial Ltd (NASDAQ:ZJK) which rose 172.24% to 17.26, Cheetah Net Supply Chain Service Inc (NASDAQ:CTNT) which was up 160.11% to settle at 4.89 and Oriental Rise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ORIS) which gained 81.89% to close at 11.95.
The worst performers were Revelation Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:REVB) which was down 46.84% to 0.51 in late trade, Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc (NASDAQ:OMEX) which lost 43.63% to settle at 0.42 and Reitar Logtech Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:RITR) which was down 38.39% to 2.68 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1632 to 1187 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2209 fell and 1100 advanced, while 135 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.30% to 13.30 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.28% or 7.51 to $2,666.01 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.70% or 1.84 to hit $69.94 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.45% or 1.76 to trade at $73.59 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.04% to 149.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 106.31.
