Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 2.79% to hit a new 52-week low, while the S&P 500 index fell 3.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 4.68%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which rose 0.46% or 1.09 points to trade at 238.47 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) fell 0.11% or 0.07 points to end at 61.34 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was down 0.57% or 0.25 points to 43.24 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 8.77% or 11.14 points to trade at 115.86 in late trade. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 6.96% or 12.42 points to end at 166.03 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 5.26% or 8.13 points to 146.29.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) which rose 1.55% to 202.99, Truist Financial Corp (NYSE:TFC) which was up 1.50% to settle at 46.64 and Duke Realty Corporation (NYSE:DRE) which gained 0.98% to close at 50.27.

The worst performers were Signature Bank (NASDAQ:SBNY) which was down 13.67% to 174.05 in late trade, Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) which lost 12.88% to settle at 39.64 and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which was down 12.23% to 11.55 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Day One Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:DAWN) which rose 125.98% to 14.96, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GMVD) which was up 88.32% to settle at 0.65 and Hillstream Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:HILS) which gained 75.30% to close at 1.35.

The worst performers were Electric Last Mile Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:ELMS) which was down 61.59% to 0.20 in late trade, Applied Blockchain Inc (NASDAQ:APLD) which lost 52.55% to settle at 1.30 and TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) which was down 48.68% to 0.14 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 3103 to 154 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3470 fell and 484 advanced, while 163 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 22.59% to 34.02 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.93% or 54.95 to $1,820.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.18% or 0.22 to hit $120.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.15 to trade at $122.16 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.03% to 1.04, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 134.45.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.03% at 105.08.
