Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.41%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which rose 4.71% or 22.90 points to trade at 509.34 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 1.72% or 5.64 points to end at 333.10 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 1.68% or 4.25 points to 257.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 19.99% or 18.83 points to trade at 75.36 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 4.66% or 6.05 points to end at 123.77 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 2.93% or 2.99 points to 99.18.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Comerica Inc (NYSE:CMA) which rose 6.69% to 51.04, Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF) which was up 6.69% to settle at 47.19 and Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) which gained 5.72% to close at 130.81.
The worst performers were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) which was down 19.99% to 75.36 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 9.84% to settle at 225.34 and Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 8.26% to 816.85 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Actelis Networks Inc (NASDAQ:ASNS) which rose 56.08% to 2.31, Cosmos Health Inc. (NASDAQ:COSM) which was up 53.17% to settle at 1.04 and Innovative Eyewear Inc (NASDAQ:LUCY) which gained 50.00% to close at 0.50.
The worst performers were Bit Origin Ltd (NASDAQ:BTOG) which was down 45.86% to 2.88 in late trade, Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which lost 45.21% to settle at 0.32 and Accolade Inc (NASDAQ:ACCD) which was down 43.98% to 3.58 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1659 to 1184 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1853 rose and 1478 declined, while 119 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.63% to 12.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.06% or 1.45 to $2,335.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.27% or 0.22 to hit $81.52 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.31 to trade at $84.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 160.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 105.56.
