Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Consumer Services and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.49%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.77%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 1.98% or 4.21 points to trade at 216.70 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.74% or 0.53 points to end at 30.98 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 1.72% or 1.61 points to 95.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which lost 1.59% or 7.89 points to trade at 489.23 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 1.53% or 1.98 points to end at 127.50 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) shed 0.63% or 1.46 points to 230.48.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Autodesk Inc (NASDAQ:ADSK) which rose 6.48% to 240.51, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was up 5.41% to settle at 1,828.87 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 5.30% to close at 187.44.
The worst performers were First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was down 4.49% to 261.33 in late trade, Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which lost 4.10% to settle at 245.52 and Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which was down 3.20% to 30.54 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Salarius Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SLRX) which rose 723.28% to 3.48, Mustang Bio Inc (NASDAQ:MBIO) which was up 476.92% to settle at 0.75 and Interactive Strength Inc (NASDAQ:TRNR) which gained 70.73% to close at 4.90.
The worst performers were Aerovate Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AVTE) which was down 93.30% to 1.65 in late trade, Ovid Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:OVID) which lost 76.00% to settle at 0.79 and iPower Inc (NASDAQ:IPW) which was down 36.67% to 2.09 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1636 to 1192 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1690 fell and 1680 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.71% to 12.75.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.67% or 15.75 to $2,333.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.25% or 1.76 to hit $79.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 1.74 to trade at $84.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.23% to 157.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 104.95.
