Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.04% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.42%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 2.24% or 5.11 points to trade at 232.90 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.42% or 5.67 points to end at 405.20 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was up 1.22% or 1.78 points to 147.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 2.74% or 4.28 points to trade at 152.04 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.88% or 0.45 points to end at 23.46 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 1.16% or 1.04 points to 88.40.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which rose 2.61% to 158.88, Intuitive Surgical Inc (NASDAQ:ISRG) which was up 2.52% to settle at 491.27 and CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which gained 2.44% to close at 62.88.
The worst performers were Jacobs Engineering Group Inc (NYSE:J) which was down 15.84% to 130.90 in late trade, Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which lost 3.83% to settle at 70.32 and Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which was down 3.69% to 389.12 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) which rose 1,450.94% to 4.11, Sonnet Biotherapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SONN) which was up 842.78% to settle at 6.69 and Fangdd Network Group Ltd (NASDAQ:DUO) which gained 146.03% to close at 3.10.
The worst performers were XChange TECINC DRC (NASDAQ:XHG) which was down 70.22% to 0.29 in late trade, Paranovus Entertainment Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:PAVS) which lost 46.67% to settle at 0.48 and Aditx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ADTX) which was down 34.35% to 0.11 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1531 to 1300 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1651 rose and 1633 declined, while 129 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.36% to 16.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.49% or 13.15 to $2,654.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.25% or 0.17 to hit $68.35 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.36 to trade at $71.90 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.11, while USD/JPY rose 1.05% to 143.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 100.49.
