Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Goods, Basic Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.97%, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.07%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which rose 0.35% or 0.48 points to trade at 137.49 at the close. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) fell 0.38% or 1.96 points to end at 508.04 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was down 0.46% or 2.63 points to 573.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 2.28% or 1.74 points to trade at 74.68 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 2.26% or 4.08 points to end at 176.64 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 1.45% or 2.45 points to 167.08.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which rose 8.79% to 22.28, EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which was up 5.12% to settle at 46.59 and Coterra Energy Inc (NYSE:CTRA) which gained 3.55% to close at 25.52.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 4.07% to 30.68 in late trade, ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which lost 3.86% to settle at 63.46 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 3.74% to 9.26 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Energous Co (NASDAQ:WATT) which rose 554.32% to 2.65, NXU Inc (NASDAQ:NXU) which was up 516.27% to settle at 1.50 and MicroCloud Hologram Inc (NASDAQ:HOLO) which gained 167.08% to close at 6.41.
The worst performers were Intchains Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ICG) which was down 60.34% to 3.70 in late trade, ABPRO Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ABP) which lost 52.56% to settle at 2.13 and Snow Lake Resources Ltd (NASDAQ:LITM) which was down 41.56% to 0.94 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1907 to 898 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2081 fell and 1228 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.09% to 17.40.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.41% or 10.89 to $2,621.01 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.84% or 0.59 to hit $71.19 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.33 to trade at $74.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.04, while USD/JPY fell 0.65% to 156.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 107.88.
