Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.76%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 2.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 7.90% or 1.50 points to trade at 20.49 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 3.90% or 12.19 points to end at 324.69 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 3.78% or 9.08 points to 249.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 points to trade at 85.96 in late trade. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) added 0.03% or 0.16 points to end at 566.24 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) gained 0.39% or 0.27 points to 68.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which rose 11.42% to 843.52, Parker-Hannifin Corporation (NYSE:PH) which was up 10.84% to settle at 568.08 and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which gained 9.48% to close at 845.31.
The worst performers were McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which was down 11.34% to 547.51 in late trade, Monster Beverage Corp (NASDAQ:MNST) which lost 10.93% to settle at 45.01 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 8.95% to 7.02 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sunshine Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:SBFM) which rose 1,847.18% to 2.97, Digital Turbine Inc (NASDAQ:APPS) which was up 61.80% to settle at 2.88 and Harrow Health Inc (NASDAQ:HROW) which gained 54.32% to close at 33.92.
The worst performers were Outset Medical Inc (NASDAQ:OM) which was down 68.53% to 1.07 in late trade, Entero Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ENTO) which lost 61.85% to settle at 0.24 and Toughbuilt Industries Inc (NASDAQ:TBLT) which was down 59.96% to 2.17 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2264 to 597 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2466 rose and 888 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 14.58% to 23.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.31% or 31.95 to $2,464.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.17% or 0.88 to hit $76.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.96% or 0.75 to trade at $79.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.35% to 147.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 103.03.
