Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Financials and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.41%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.62%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V), which rose 1.88% or 4.94 points to trade at 268.18 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.67% or 3.62 points to end at 220.37 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) was up 1.65% or 3.38 points to 208.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 1.53% or 0.64 points to trade at 41.10 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.03% or 0.79 points to end at 76.04 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 0.88% or 2.20 points to 247.79.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which rose 10.20% to 231.26, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was up 5.72% to settle at 10.72 and ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which gained 5.41% to close at 72.92.
The worst performers were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 3.50% to 70.81 in late trade, Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which lost 3.45% to settle at 40.54 and Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which was down 3.04% to 59.02 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Roadzen Inc (NASDAQ:RDZN) which rose 81.48% to 2.94, SYLA Technologies Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SYT) which was up 63.16% to settle at 3.10 and Versus Systems Inc (NASDAQ:VS) which gained 50.79% to close at 1.90.
The worst performers were Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:MAXN) which was down 67.22% to 0.18 in late trade, Blue World Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:TOYO) which lost 49.06% to settle at 2.16 and Cartesian Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RNAC) which was down 35.02% to 15.77 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1767 to 1071 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1783 fell and 1573 advanced, while 97 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.55% to 12.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $2,338.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.35% or 0.29 to hit $83.09 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.08 to trade at $86.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.00% to 161.45.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 105.38.
