Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Oil & Gas and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.09%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.09%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 3.99% or 9.70 points to trade at 252.85 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.25% or 4.01 points to end at 182.51 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 2.19% or 4.24 points to 197.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V), which lost 2.56% or 7.01 points to trade at 266.59 in late trade. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 2.17% or 9.90 points to end at 445.96 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.28% or 1.68 points to 129.82.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 7.12% to 890.36, Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which was up 4.78% to settle at 340.82 and McCormick & Company Incorporated (NYSE:MKC) which gained 4.33% to close at 70.60.
The worst performers were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 22.16% to 12.19 in late trade, International Paper (NYSE:IP) which lost 7.21% to settle at 43.25 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was down 7.12% to 132.23 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RIGL) which rose 1,106.33% to 9.53, Assure Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IONM) which was up 82.76% to settle at 0.42 and GeoVax Labs Inc (NASDAQ:GOVX) which gained 76.18% to close at 3.55.
The worst performers were Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) which was down 53.99% to 0.75 in late trade, BranchOut Food Inc (NASDAQ:BOF) which lost 48.09% to settle at 0.68 and Griid Infrastructure Inc (NASDAQ:GRDI) which was down 47.86% to 1.22 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1740 to 1090 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2080 rose and 1235 declined, while 130 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.47% to 12.24.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.02% or 23.70 to $2,336.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.19% or 0.96 to hit $81.86 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.84 to trade at $85.31 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.07, while USD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 160.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 105.59.
