Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Banking and Carbon sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.76% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM), which rose 3.50% or 194.55 points to trade at 5,756.90 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 3.28% or 137.10 points to end at 4,315.55 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.80% or 9.05 points to 331.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 1.48% or 7.60 points to trade at 504.85 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 1.44% or 42.90 points to end at 2,931.55 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 1.36% or 75.90 points to 5,502.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.95% to 4,298.35, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 2.31% to settle at 1,647.10 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 2.27% to close at 572.30.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.59% to 2,927.25 in late trade, JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which lost 0.89% to settle at 926.20 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.54% to 378.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1619 to 648 and 17 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2440 fell and 1330 advanced, while 88 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.02% to 14.51.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.24% or 6.00 to $2,465.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.10% or 0.08 to hit $81.36 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.10 to trade at $84.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.64, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 91.43.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 103.53.
