Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Consumer Durables and Carbon sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.56% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which rose 5.80% or 102.05 points to trade at 1871.20 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 3.70% or 11.75 points to end at 329.30 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 2.84% or 7.65 points to 276.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 2.10% or 10.50 points to trade at 489.25 in late trade. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 2.57% or 737.45 points to end at 27981.50 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 2.04% or 4.10 points to 196.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which rose 6.17% to 1869.95, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 3.73% to settle at 329.45 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.58% to close at 783.20.
The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 2.20% to 488.80 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 1.85% to settle at 196.55 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.57% to 3627.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 808 to 805 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1514 rose and 1375 declined, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.17% to 14.3050.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.59% or 7.90 to $1342.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.12% or 0.08 to hit $64.22 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.12 to trade at $69.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 63.447, while EUR/INR rose 0.52% to 77.9278.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 90.15.
