Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Food & Beverage sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Retail, Media and Software sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.67% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index fell 0.12%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which rose 3.82% or 0.905 points to trade at 24.605 at the close. E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) added 2.85% or 0.385 points to end at 13.895 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn) was up 1.74% or 0.275 points to 16.095 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which lost 1.12% or 2.550 points to trade at 226.100 in late trade. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) declined 0.90% or 1.000 points to end at 110.650 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) shed 0.45% or 0.310 points to 68.920.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which rose 3.94% to 27.550, Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which was up 2.73% to settle at 54.270 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (XETRA:STAGn) which gained 2.58% to close at 28.650.
The worst performers were Metro AG ST O.N. (XETRA:MEOG) which was down 2.62% to 29.410 in late trade, Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which lost 1.78% to settle at 51.861 and A.Springer AG VNA (XETRA:SPRGn) which was down 1.12% to 57.270 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which rose 6.30% to 7.579, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was up 6.07% to settle at 28.655 and QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which gained 4.99% to close at 1.811.
The worst performers were Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was down 5.96% to 115.100 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which lost 1.71% to settle at 11.795 and United Internet AG NA (XETRA:UTDI) which was down 1.69% to 39.635 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 429 to 304 and 33 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 7.51% to 15.77 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.53% or 6.40 to $1194.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.83% or 0.41 to hit $49.86 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.48 to trade at $59.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.17% to 1.1316, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.7323.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 94.77.
