Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Leisure Goods and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.02% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Carrefour (PARIS:CARR), which rose 2.27% or 0.69 points to trade at 31.05 at the close. Lafarge (PARIS:LAFP) added 1.98% or 1.27 points to end at 65.27 and Solvay (BRU:SOLB) was up 1.92% or 2.50 points to 132.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unibail-Rodamco (AMS:UNBP), which lost 2.27% or 5.90 points to trade at 253.55 in late trade. Essilor International (PARIS:ESSI) declined 1.50% or 1.60 points to end at 105.20 and Valeo (PARIS:VLOF) shed 1.30% or 1.75 points to 132.85.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Aperam (AMS:APAM) which rose 9.92% to 34.90, Television Francaise 1 SA (PARIS:TFFP) which was up 5.36% to settle at 16.400 and Faurecia (PARIS:EPED) which gained 4.59% to close at 41.97.
The worst performers were Genfit (PARIS:GNFT) which was down 9.01% to 59.070 in late trade, Klepierre (PARIS:LOIM) which lost 4.63% to settle at 43.45 and Bureau Veritas (PARIS:BVI) which was down 4.24% to 20.21 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 522 to 423 and 28 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 1.56% to 16.84.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.47% or 29.50 to $1166.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 1.87% or 0.95 to hit $49.81 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.38 to trade at $60.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.65% to 1.0846, while EUR/GBP fell 0.40% to 0.7207.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.38% at 97.73.
