Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which rose 4.67% or 1.08 points to trade at 24.23 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:AG) added 4.27% or 0.43 points to end at 10.51 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 3.52% or 0.29 points to 8.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which lost 4.35% or 0.50 points to trade at 10.99 in late trade. Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) declined 3.98% or 0.13 points to end at 3.14 and Magna International Inc (TSX:MG) shed 3.56% or 2.14 points to 57.92.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 618 to 324 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.30% to 11.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 4.30 to $2,734.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.70% or 1.17 to hit $69.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 1.03 to trade at $74.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 103.80.
