Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL), which rose 5.26% or 0.370 points to trade at 7.400 at the close. TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) added 5.24% or 0.37 points to end at 7.43 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) was up 4.63% or 0.57 points to 12.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX), which lost 5.64% or 0.180 points to trade at 3.010 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) declined 5.11% or 0.160 points to end at 2.970 and Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW) shed 4.29% or 1.25 points to 27.89.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 742 to 415 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.36% to 10.77.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 6.90 to $1280.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.64% or 0.94 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.68% or 1.05 to trade at $63.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.52% to 0.7877, while CAD/EUR rose 1.63% to 0.6620.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 92.82.
