Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.16% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.32%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 1.54% or 2.01 points to trade at 131.85 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) added 1.50% or 1.05 points to end at 70.84 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 1.35% or 1.22 points to 91.78 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 1.95% or 0.40 points to trade at 20.14 in late trade. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 0.87% or 1.54 points to end at 175.50 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.85% or 1.48 points to 173.48.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dayforce Inc (NYSE:DAY) which rose 3.96% to 59.00, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 3.63% to settle at 17.70 and Jack Henry & Associates Inc (NASDAQ:JKHY) which gained 2.56% to close at 168.84.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 8.27% to 562.51 in late trade, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which lost 3.99% to settle at 159.72 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was down 3.83% to 98.91 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Femto Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BCAN) which rose 1,466.38% to 8.33, Medirom Healthcare Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MRM) which was up 135.89% to settle at 5.85 and Prestige Wealth Inc (NASDAQ:PWM) which gained 92.57% to close at 1.43.
The worst performers were Alarum Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:ALAR) which was down 31.34% to 14.83 in late trade, Fenbo Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:FEBO) which lost 30.53% to settle at 4.87 and PDD Holdings Inc DRC (NASDAQ:PDD) which was down 28.51% to 100.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1528 to 1308 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1740 fell and 1597 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.83% to 16.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.32% or 8.20 to $2,554.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.01% or 2.25 to hit $77.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.50% or 1.95 to trade at $80.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.12, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 144.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 100.78.
