Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.82%, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.61%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 2.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 5.29% or 10.61 points to trade at 211.05 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 1.62% or 8.15 points to end at 511.76 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 0.37% or 0.16 points to 43.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 3.94% or 2.06 points to trade at 50.18 in late trade. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 2.69% or 11.01 points to end at 397.58 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 2.54% or 2.65 points to 101.53.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which rose 6.65% to 14.59, Edwards Lifesciences Corp (NYSE:EW) which was up 6.16% to settle at 78.45 and Stryker Corporation (NYSE:SYK) which gained 5.92% to close at 335.37.
The worst performers were MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was down 17.80% to 225.51 in late trade, Rockwell Automation Inc (NYSE:ROK) which lost 17.73% to settle at 252.76 and Teradyne Inc (NASDAQ:TER) which was down 7.65% to 96.59 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Infobird Co Ltd (NASDAQ:IFBD) which rose 115.87% to 1.36, Connexa Sports Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CNXA) which was up 101.21% to settle at 0.40 and Minim Inc (NASDAQ:MINM) which gained 61.42% to close at 4.10.
The worst performers were Deep Medicine Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:DMAQ) which was down 64.72% to 2.96 in late trade, Nuvve Holding Corp (NASDAQ:NVVE) which lost 62.87% to settle at 1.24 and Kaixin Auto Holdings (NASDAQ:KXIN) which was down 60.59% to 0.29 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2222 to 653 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2620 fell and 845 advanced, while 88 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.81% to 14.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.30% or 6.20 to $2,057.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.63% or 2.05 to hit $75.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.48% or 2.05 to trade at $80.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.44% to 146.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 103.39.
