Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.66%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.32%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 1.32% or 3.90 points to trade at 298.62 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 0.73% or 2.88 points to end at 395.47 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 0.45% or 0.70 points to 155.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 3.04% or 0.71 points to trade at 22.50 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.33% or 1.14 points to end at 47.83 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) shed 1.81% or 10.29 points to 557.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which rose 5.65% to 28.41, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was up 4.72% to settle at 214.62 and Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) which gained 4.15% to close at 372.83.
The worst performers were Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which was down 12.31% to 226.33 in late trade, Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (NYSE:PEG) which lost 6.96% to settle at 81.23 and Zoetis Inc (NYSE:ZTS) which was down 3.73% to 175.16 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Simpple Ltd (NASDAQ:SPPL) which rose 245.31% to 1.11, Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:NUWE) which was up 100.74% to settle at 2.73 and Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) which gained 74.42% to close at 3.00.
The worst performers were E. W. Scripps Co Class A (NASDAQ:SSP) which was down 35.94% to 2.26 in late trade, GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which lost 35.03% to settle at 1.15 and Triller Group Inc (NASDAQ:ILLR) which was down 31.60% to 2.93 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1564 to 1231 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1680 fell and 1602 advanced, while 71 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.01% to 22.32.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.09% or 2.55 to $2,746.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.12% or 2.17 to hit $71.66 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.95% or 2.16 to trade at $75.26 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.53% to 152.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 103.80.
