Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.89%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 0.95% or 2.03 points to trade at 216.63 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 0.59% or 1.46 points to end at 247.76 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) was up 0.57% or 0.92 points to 162.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 6.12% or 1.31 points to trade at 20.10 in late trade. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 2.21% or 3.98 points to end at 176.13 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 2.03% or 8.59 points to 415.55.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Franklin Resources Inc (NYSE:BEN) which rose 4.55% to 20.68, Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ:NDSN) which was up 3.33% to settle at 256.03 and CenterPoint Energy Inc (NYSE:CNP) which gained 3.06% to close at 26.94.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 6.47% to 81.04 in late trade, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which lost 6.12% to settle at 20.10 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 5.65% to 210.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) which rose 155.00% to 3.06, Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc (NASDAQ:FFIE) which was up 123.96% to settle at 8.04 and GD Culture Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GDC) which gained 97.71% to close at 7.75.
The worst performers were Revelation Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:REVB) which was down 40.19% to 1.25 in late trade, Vision Marine Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:VMAR) which lost 30.00% to settle at 4.20 and Holdco Nuvo Group DG Ltd (NASDAQ:NUVO) which was down 27.03% to 0.27 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1894 to 932 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2229 fell and 1080 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.87% to 17.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.09% or 27.85 to $2,519.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.38% or 0.99 to hit $72.92 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 1.05 to trade at $77.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.11, while USD/JPY rose 0.75% to 146.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 101.42.
