Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 3.55% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 2.53%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 13.11% or 69.11 points to trade at 596.07 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 11.21% or 24.83 points to end at 246.32 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 8.81% or 33.77 points to 417.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 3.07% or 2.40 points to trade at 75.58 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 2.73% or 4.53 points to end at 161.23 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 2.57% or 10.27 points to 389.82.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF) which rose 18.69% to 67.44, Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) which was up 18.66% to settle at 180.18 and Trimble Inc (NASDAQ:TRMB) which gained 17.27% to close at 72.26.
The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 17.56% to 22.84 in late trade, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which lost 16.17% to settle at 75.40 and International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was down 11.72% to 87.49 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wellchange Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:WCT) which rose 99.48% to 7.62, Galaxy Payroll Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GLXG) which was up 92.30% to settle at 14.96 and ARB IOT Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ARBB) which gained 62.75% to close at 0.92.
The worst performers were Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ZVSA) which was down 44.88% to 1.40 in late trade, Bionomics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:BNOX) which lost 43.85% to settle at 0.28 and Vast Renewables Ltd (NASDAQ:VSTE) which was down 44.68% to 2.96 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1780 to 1029 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2231 rose and 1076 declined, while 56 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 19.38% to 16.52 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.89% or 79.50 to $2,670.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $71.97 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.31 to trade at $75.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.77% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 1.92% to 154.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.61% at 104.99.
