Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.80%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.26%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which rose 4.43% or 6.12 points to trade at 144.43 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 1.79% or 3.94 points to end at 224.16 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.68% or 8.49 points to 513.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.15% or 1.97 points to trade at 169.90 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 0.51% or 0.85 points to end at 165.13 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 0.49% or 0.36 points to 73.31.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 10.92% to 33.33, Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was up 8.49% to settle at 162.36 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 8.22% to close at 410.44.
The worst performers were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which was down 4.07% to 73.36 in late trade, Molson Coors Brewing Co Class B (NYSE:TAP) which lost 3.37% to settle at 55.27 and Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE) which was down 3.35% to 66.13 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Focus Universal Inc (NASDAQ:FCUV) which rose 177.57% to 0.96, N2OFF Inc (NASDAQ:NITO) which was up 146.73% to settle at 2.64 and Cerence Inc (NASDAQ:CRNC) which gained 143.76% to close at 19.33.
The worst performers were Ptl Inc (NASDAQ:PTLE) which was down 39.38% to 7.39 in late trade, HWH International Inc (NASDAQ:HWH) which lost 28.80% to settle at 0.46 and NXU Inc (NASDAQ:NXU) which was down 23.98% to 0.71 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2059 to 738 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2441 rose and 870 declined, while 102 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.04% to 16.13.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.70% or 18.76 to $2,650.24 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.23% or 0.90 to hit $74.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.65 to trade at $76.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 1.03, while USD/JPY fell 0.06% to 157.37.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 108.78.
