Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.69% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.61%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 11.05% or 36.62 points to trade at 368.05 at the close. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) added 3.48% or 4.88 points to end at 145.14 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 2.21% or 4.72 points to 218.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 2.98% or 1.30 points to trade at 42.53 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 2.22% or 3.60 points to end at 158.32 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) shed 2.06% or 1.31 points to 62.21.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) which rose 11.05% to 368.05, ServiceNow Inc (NYSE:NOW) which was up 6.22% to settle at 1,123.13 and Edwards Lifesciences Corp (NYSE:EW) which gained 5.70% to close at 74.20.
The worst performers were Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was down 74.56% to 105.43 in late trade, Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) which lost 6.24% to settle at 42.69 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was down 5.92% to 102.61 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cyclerion Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CYCN) which rose 294.41% to 6.35, Bluebird bio Inc (NASDAQ:BLUE) which was up 105.02% to settle at 0.74 and SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:SMX) which gained 96.97% to close at 0.38.
The worst performers were Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) which was down 77.26% to 0.63 in late trade, Mawson Infrastructure Group Inc (NASDAQ:MIGI) which lost 64.39% to settle at 0.68 and Oriental Rise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ORIS) which was down 32.97% to 8.01 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1413 to 1391 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1765 rose and 1522 declined, while 138 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.13% to 13.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.22% or 5.90 to $2,673.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.84% or 1.29 to hit $68.65 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.66% or 1.22 to trade at $72.40 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.69% to 150.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 106.35.
