Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.69% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 6.14% or 19.78 points to trade at 341.73 at the close. Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) added 2.62% or 5.75 points to end at 225.24 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 2.22% or 13.08 points to 602.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 4.39% or 1.15 points to trade at 25.05 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 2.13% or 2.19 points to end at 100.73 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 1.79% or 2.72 points to 148.96.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) which rose 10.49% to 59.82, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 9.57% to settle at 110.49 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 8.96% to close at 350.00.
The worst performers were Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which was down 14.97% to 647.31 in late trade, AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) which lost 12.57% to settle at 174.43 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 8.71% to 42.75 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Volcon Inc (NASDAQ:VLCN) which rose 807.16% to 6.84, CERo Therapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CERO) which was up 180.00% to settle at 0.20 and Mercurity Fintech Holding Inc ADR (NASDAQ:MFH) which gained 81.40% to close at 2.34.
The worst performers were RAPT Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPT) which was down 39.45% to 1.75 in late trade, Nvni Group Ltd (NASDAQ:NVNI) which lost 36.44% to settle at 0.75 and Sapiens International Corporation NV (NASDAQ:SPNS) which was down 26.24% to 29.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1619 to 1188 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1960 rose and 1331 declined, while 118 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.20% to 14.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.47% or 66.55 to $2,628.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.15% or 2.22 to hit $68.16 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.61% or 1.93 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.57% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.69% to 153.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.49% at 105.41.
