Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.32%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.08%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 2.98% or 2.17 points to trade at 74.86 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 2.60% or 6.45 points to end at 254.08 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 1.40% or 4.64 points to 335.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 6.08% or 2.53 points to trade at 39.09 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.68% or 1.61 points to end at 94.13 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 1.36% or 2.16 points to 156.99.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were IQVIA Holdings Inc (NYSE:IQV) which rose 9.20% to 245.23, ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which was up 6.62% to settle at 77.33 and Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which gained 6.54% to close at 977.06.
The worst performers were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) which was down 6.08% to 39.09 in late trade, Air Products and Chemicals Inc (NYSE:APD) which lost 5.46% to settle at 248.55 and Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:DAL) which was down 3.54% to 43.83 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Mira Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MIRA) which rose 627.35% to 5.01, CareMax Inc (NASDAQ:CMAX) which was up 228.48% to settle at 5.19 and Nukkleus Inc (NASDAQ:NUKK) which gained 55.63% to close at 0.50.
The worst performers were Crown LNG Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:CGBS) which was down 29.08% to 1.00 in late trade, Linkage Global Inc (NASDAQ:LGCB) which lost 28.52% to settle at 3.66 and Golden Sun Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GSUN) which was down 23.66% to 5.13 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2106 to 710 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2365 rose and 1004 declined, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.75% to 14.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.02% or 0.45 to $2,399.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.35 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.26 to trade at $82.37 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.26% to 157.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 104.05.
