Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities, Oil & Gas and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.18%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.26%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 1.69% or 5.53 points to trade at 332.56 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.64% or 1.08 points to end at 66.96 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 1.50% or 2.76 points to 187.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 1.91% or 3.77 points to trade at 193.12 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 1.30% or 3.63 points to end at 275.04 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 1.29% or 0.53 points to 40.41.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which rose 8.40% to 214.63, Southwest Airlines Company (NYSE:LUV) which was up 7.03% to settle at 29.70 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which gained 6.45% to close at 130.67.
The worst performers were Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) which was down 6.12% to 12.58 in late trade, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which lost 4.49% to settle at 160.34 and Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which was down 3.41% to 109.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:TNXP) which rose 2,022.96% to 2.21, Kwesst Micro Systems Inc (NASDAQ:KWE) which was up 120.46% to settle at 0.87 and Nauticus Robotics Inc (NASDAQ:KITT) which gained 48.97% to close at 0.23.
The worst performers were Baijiayun Group Ltd (NASDAQ:RTC) which was down 32.84% to 3.66 in late trade, Tharimmune Inc (NASDAQ:THAR) which lost 32.49% to settle at 3.47 and Sunshine Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:SBFM) which was down 32.30% to 0.38 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1449 to 1389 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1735 fell and 1623 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.26% to 12.74.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 2.10 to $2,327.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.35% or 2.53 to hit $78.06 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.90% or 2.31 to trade at $81.93 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.21% to 157.04.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.73.
