Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.04%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 3.90% or 7.26 points to trade at 193.60 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.96% or 4.09 points to end at 213.16 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.94% or 3.40 points to 178.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 2.03% or 6.49 points to trade at 312.82 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 1.58% or 2.51 points to end at 155.95 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) shed 1.43% or 2.98 points to 205.74.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which rose 15.53% to 296.19, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 8.10% to settle at 100.28 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 4.83% to close at 196.40.
The worst performers were Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG) which was down 97.99% to 65.86 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which lost 11.01% to settle at 122.45 and Aptiv PLC (NYSE:APTV) which was down 7.93% to 67.54 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Singular Genomics Systems Inc (NASDAQ:OMIC) which rose 3,727.59% to 11.10, ANEW Medical Inc (NASDAQ:WENA) which was up 119.39% to settle at 3.62 and CareMax Inc (NASDAQ:CMAX) which gained 79.47% to close at 3.41.
The worst performers were Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) which was down 40.73% to 1.63 in late trade, GRI Bio Inc (NASDAQ:GRI) which lost 38.38% to settle at 1.83 and Lyell Immunopharma Inc (NASDAQ:LYEL) which was down 36.03% to 1.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1538 to 1263 and 132 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1687 rose and 1647 declined, while 141 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.26% to 12.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.93% or 21.75 to $2,309.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.24% or 0.19 to hit $80.64 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $84.20 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.70% to 160.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 105.73.
