Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Consumer Services and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.64% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 2.78% or 1.50 points to trade at 55.38 at the close. Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.75% or 1.19 points to end at 69.00 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 1.58% or 3.76 points to 241.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.13% or 0.78 points to trade at 35.60 in late trade. Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO) declined 1.83% or 0.77 points to end at 41.25 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 0.07% or 0.09 points to 124.58.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Teradata Corporation (NYSE:TDC) which rose 9.26% to 32.97, Allegion PLC (NYSE:ALLE) which was up 6.08% to settle at 71.71 and Pioneer Natural Resources Company (NYSE:PXD) which gained 5.27% to close at 191.25.
The worst performers were Dun & Bradstreet Corporation (NYSE:DNB) which was down 16.92% to 101.75 in late trade, Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which lost 8.48% to settle at 18.34 and Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE:SEE) which was down 6.75% to 46.83 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jaguar Animal Health Inc (NASDAQ:JAGX) which rose 60.09% to 1.089, Aqua Metals Inc (NASDAQ:AQMS) which was up 47.50% to settle at 16.83 and KBS Fashion Group Ltd (NASDAQ:KBSF) which gained 35.96% to close at 3.9400.
The worst performers were Wins Finance Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:WINS) which was down 20.35% to 360.00 in late trade, Moleculin Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:MBRX) which lost 20.12% to settle at 1.20 and Kitov Pharmaceuticals Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:KTOV) which was down 18.68% to 2.074 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2069 to 1085 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1837 rose and 660 declined, while 93 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.68% to 10.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.57% or 7.05 to $1232.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.32% or 0.69 to hit $53.03 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.94% or 0.52 to trade at $55.64 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.38% to 1.0657, while USD/JPY rose 1.22% to 113.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 100.66.
