Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.08% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (N:NKE), which rose 2.10% or 2.74 points to trade at 133.21 at the close. Intel Corporation (O:INTC) added 1.66% or 0.55 points to end at 33.59 and Visa Inc (N:V) was up 1.30% or 0.99 points to 76.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exxon Mobil Corporation (N:XOM), which lost 1.81% or 1.49 points to trade at 80.99 in late trade. Chevron Corporation (N:CVX) declined 1.38% or 1.26 points to end at 90.03 and United Technologies Corporation (N:UTX) shed 1.02% or 0.95 points to 92.05.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Keurig Green Mountain Inc (O:GMCR) which rose 4.53% to 53.10, Micron Technology Inc (O:MU) which was up 3.57% to settle at 19.16 and Quanta Services Inc (N:PWR) which gained 3.04% to close at 19.31.
The worst performers were Hasbro Inc (O:HAS) which was down 7.01% to 72.33 in late trade, Wynn Resorts Limited (O:WYNN) which lost 6.38% to settle at 68.25 and Cimarex Energy Co (N:XEC) which was down 5.23% to 116.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Dehaier Medical Systems Ltd (O:DHRM) which rose 36.62% to 1.940, icad inc (O:ICAD) which was up 28.34% to settle at 4.030 and Liberty Tripadvisor Holdings Inc (O:LTRPB) which gained 27.90% to close at 31.77.
The worst performers were Genocea Bioscnc (O:GNCA) which was down 28.49% to 5.17 in late trade, Marron Bio (O:MBII) which lost 21.78% to settle at 2.73 and Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (O:GLDD) which was down 20.83% to 4.22 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1387 to 1154 and 1 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1259 rose and 1254 declined, while 74 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.47% to 14.98 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.09% or 12.90 to $1170.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.63% or 1.25 to hit $46.47 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 1.67 to trade at $48.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.22% to 1.1322, while USD/JPY rose 0.07% to 119.53.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 95.00.
