Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.16%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 2.99% or 110.75 points to trade at 3816.05 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 2.98% or 5.80 points to end at 200.15 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) was up 2.66% or 4.20 points to 161.95 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which lost 2.20% or 19.85 points to trade at 884.20 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 1.98% or 17.60 points to end at 871.55 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) shed 1.58% or 18.20 points to 1131.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 3.07% to 3817.35, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.94% to settle at 199.90 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.55% to close at 216.15.

The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.04% to 884.30 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.51% to settle at 1131.40 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.48% to 820.15 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 709 to 700 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 444 fell and 368 advanced, while 34 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.80% to 16.3800.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.15% or 1.90 to $1248.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.21% or 0.09 to hit $43.27 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.03 to trade at $44.56 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.12% to 66.570, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 74.9800.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 94.85.
