Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Carbon sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.68%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 4.32% or 29.85 points to trade at 722.70 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.06% or 5.35 points to end at 181.20 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 3.54% or 11.40 points to 332.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 2.76% or 5.50 points to trade at 194.10 in late trade. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 2.21% or 138.20 points to end at 6091.90 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 2.73% or 10.60 points to 380.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 4.64% to 722.95, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 3.99% to settle at 181.25 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which gained 3.65% to close at 93.75.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 2.56% to 194.30 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 1.08% to settle at 1006.15 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 1.00% to 2570.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 906 to 665 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1364 rose and 1111 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.08% to 17.1225.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.86% or 11.30 to $1321.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.13% or 0.07 to hit $54.16 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.28 to trade at $61.82 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.38% to 71.175, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 81.6535.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.083.
