Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Technology and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.74% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 5.45% or 606.75 points to trade at 11,749.85 at the close. LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM) added 3.85% or 199.55 points to end at 5,377.05 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 3.31% or 12.10 points to 377.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which lost 1.07% or 38.55 points to trade at 3,564.40 in late trade. Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:SHMF) declined 0.97% or 29.05 points to end at 2,960.00 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 0.60% or 57.20 points to 9,417.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 5.38% to 11,750.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 3.16% to settle at 376.50 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 3.14% to close at 510.70.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.09% to 3,566.50 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.37% to settle at 1,516.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.20% to 2,529.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1513 to 738 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2312 fell and 1434 advanced, while 110 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.77% to 14.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.51% or 11.70 to $2,324.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.40% or 0.32 to hit $81.22 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.31 to trade at $84.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.16% to 83.45, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 89.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 105.57.
